Best Practices
This is not a comprehensive list of gender identities. We included the most common. Check out our support or sources page for information on more gender identities. Remember, uncommon gender identities ARE STILL VALID!
Never assume someone's identity! Feel free to ask what a person's pronouns are, but remember gender identity is deeply personal and they may not feel comfortable sharing their pronouns. That's ok! Many people within the LGBTQ+ community recommend defaulting to they/them pronouns when you are unsure of a person's gender identity

Regarding transgender and non-binary identities... It is debated on which umbrella term exists underneath which. Some believe the primary umbrella is Transgender with binary and non-binary identities being subcategories. Others view it the opposite. No matter the identity, remember they are SELF-IDENTIFYING! Everyone's identity is valid and perfect for them!
